Trump Wishes Establishment Media Were More Open to Finding Autism Causes
On Monday, President Donald Trump expressed frustration with the establishment media’s reluctance to explore the potential causes of autism during a White House press conference. Addressing a question from Breitbart News, Trump emphasized the need for greater openness in investigating autism’s origins.
When asked if the media should be more receptive to exploring autism causes, Trump replied, “I wish they would, yeah.” Breitbart News followed up, questioning why the media appears close-minded on the topic. Trump responded, “It’s not only the media, in all fairness. It’s some people—when you talk about vaccines, they go crazy. I’m a big supporter of vaccines. I got a certain vaccine approved in nine months that would have taken five to twelve years. I’m very proud of it,” referencing the rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines under Operation Warp Speed.
Trump highlighted the success of Operation Warp Speed, noting, “A lot of people think it was one of the greatest things I’ve done … The Democrats … think it was one of the greatest things any president has done. We’re very proud of what happened.” He acknowledged the unexpected challenges posed by the pandemic but reaffirmed his support for vaccines, stating, “I’m a big believer in vaccines—polio vaccine, big believer. I’ve seen how great vaccines can be, how incredible they can be.”
During the same press conference, Trump linked acetaminophen use during pregnancy to autism in children, a topic that sparked discussion. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary announced that the USFDA had taken steps to update acetaminophen labeling and issue a letter to U.S. doctors, informing them of potential risks associated with its use during pregnancy.
Trump’s remarks underscore his call for a more open dialogue about autism’s causes, urging both the media and the public to approach the issue with curiosity and rigor.
